The city of Faro is the capital of the District of Faro. It is the most important in the Algarve, as well as the best known. Faro is a city in which we’ll find amongst other things the International Airport of this city.
Faro has incredible beaches and a population of 60,000 inhabitants. Its cathedral, the door of the Fortress, its churches, quarters etc., are definitely worth seeing. Amongst them we must mention Estoi, Montenegro, and Saint Peter of Faro. Faro is a well known tourist city due to its golden sand beaches and many monuments, its gastronomy and its famous prized posession...the tuna. Next to this city we find the Ria Formosa Lagoon, a natural reserve that measures 170 squared kilometres, a perfect location for those who enjoy bird watching.
